Once again, representatives from across Stephens Scown will attend the Royal Cornwall Show, an event which features the best in entertainment, agriculture, shopping, and competition.  

Showcase 

As one of the top agricultural shows in the country, the Royal Cornwall Show attracts a large number of visitors and exhibitors, all competing for a coveted Royal Cornwall prize. It’s been running since 1793 and is a showcase for the best in Cornish agriculture, helping the industry to thrive and innovate. 

Given Stephens Scown’s extensive rural sector expertise, many of the team will be in attendance to meet with key clients and contacts and celebrating Cornwall’s agricultural heritage.  

Meet the Team  

Head of the firm’s Rural team, Phil Reed has over 25 years’ experience in succession planning for farmers, landowners, and business owners. Throughout his career, Phil has supported thousands of families and individuals with planning for the future, his expertise valued by clients in helping to protect legacies for future generations.  

Specialising in rural and agricultural work, and specialist team leader of the Rural Property team, Sue Reynolds is also on the Cornwall committee for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association (ALA). She will be in attendance along with the firm’s other rural property experts, including Scott MitchellJames Snell, and Brittany Allen.  

Richard Bagwell heads up the firm’s Property Litigation team, acting on a range of contentious property issues, including those relating to residential and agricultural landlords and tenants. Like Sue, he is also a member of the ALA.  

Rural Sector 

Another member and Fellow of the ALA, Ian Thomas is a partner in the Property Litigation team, acting for private individuals and landed estates, farmers and large corporate clients. Ian advises clients in contentious matters cases concerning land, especially agricultural land.  

Sarah Atkinson is head of the firm’s specialist Family Finance team. Her expertise lies in advising business and farm owners on how best to protect assets from the impact of a relationship breakdown, and spouses who seek to share resources.  

James Burrows acts for individuals in relation to inheritance and trust disputes in his role as partner and leads the firm’s specialist Inheritance and Trust Disputes team. It includes advising on claims relating to the validity of Wills, or challenges to their provisions.  

A regulatory and compliance expert, Steve Panton is partner in the Commercial Dispute Resolution team. With more than 20 years of experience, his work covers all aspects of health and safety, environmental, food safety, fire safety, and consumer protection law. He works with clients in connection with investigation and prosecution by the main UK regulators, including DEFRA.  

Making connections at Royal Cornwall Show 

Some of the other lawyers attending across the show and ready to connect include: 

  • Scott Mitchell – another key part of the firm’s Rural Property team, Scott has extensive experience in representing farmers and for landed estates. He is a member of the ALA and The Country Land and Business Association.  
  • Tim Lane – part of the firm’s Corporate team, Tim also works on rural matters and in the marine sector.  
  • Brittany Allen – specialising in rural and agricultural property work, Brittany is a regular show attendee whose work whose work on farm sales and purchases, farm business tenancies, and commercial and rural property sales make her an expert in the sector.  
  • Jennie Roberts – a newer addition to the Rural Property team, Jennie, like Brittany, handles matters related to farm sales and purchases, and other rural and commercial property deals.  
  • Mark Richardson – another ALA member, Mark specialises in property and land disputes as partner in the Property Litigation team, with strong experience in agricultural matters.  
  • Kirstin Sibley – an expert in wealth protection and financial matters during divorce, Kirstin is part of the firm’s Family Finance team. Advising on pre- and post-nuptial agreements to preserve personal or inherited wealth and the family business, she works with many rural clients.  
  • John Catchpole – another new arrival, John works as part of the firm’s Commercial Property team, working on large-scale development and infrastructure projects. He also works in the space industry, supporting space and satellite businesses across the sector. 
  • Neve McLennan – a trainee in the Rural Property team, Neve is developing her work in the rural sector, dealing with agricultural businesses and farm sales.  
  • Grace Lott – a trainee in the Family team, Grace spent time as part of the Rural Property team and currently supports families during divorce and through financial remedy proceedings.
