Mark Richardson is a partner in our Property Litigation team in Exeter. He qualified in November 1992 and specialises in property and land disputes. His clients range from individuals and farmers, to PLCs and social housing organisations.

His work includes:

  • Advising a client at trial when judgment was entered against the opponent for a sum in excess of £250,000. The opponent appealed to the Court of Appeal.  At the door of the court, the opponent agreed to withdraw his appeal and to pay the judgment in full as well as the costs of the appeal
  • Legal advice on the first case which was brought by the police in connection with power to close premises under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. Mark acted for the landlord of those premises and was able to help that landlord recover possession of the premises promptly from an undesirable tenant
  • Helping a social housing organisation recover ground rent in respect of a significant number of properties in a way that involved no expense to the client
  • Proving advice in a long running dispute relating to a property in Cornwall regarding an attempt by an opponent relative to obtain an interest in the client’s property. This involved proceedings before the Land Registry Adjudicator and the High Court. Mark was able to obtain favourable Orders from the High Court and from the Adjudicator.  An attempt by the opponent to appeal the order of the High Court was unsuccessful.

Other examples where Mark can help are:

  • Agricultural – including termination of tenancies, arbitrations, other landlord and tenant issues whether involving farm business tenancies or Agricultural Holdings Act tenancies, rights of way and other rights
  • Commercial property disputes – including lease renewals, dilapidation claims, overage disputes, mines and minerals, holiday parks right of way and other rights
  • Residential – including landlord and tenant issues; leasehold enfranchise; rights of way and other rights.

Mark was the Vice Chairman of Cornerstone Housing, where he also chaired the Housing Management Committee and the Remuneration Committee.

He is a member of the Property Litigation Association, Agricultural Law Association, Chairman of Exeter 41 Club and former President and Chairman of Exeter Roundtable.

He is a member of the Stephens Scown choir and outside of work he enjoys walking, travelling (both in the UK and abroad) and eating out.
