Trusts & Planning

Creating a trust can bring many financial benefits. These include avoiding inheritance tax, protecting your family’s assets against care fees, and making sure you’re looked after if you’re a beneficiary. Yet the legal and tax issues can be complicated, and there’s no single ‘off the shelf’ solution.

We have a plan

Sit down with one of our team who has a complete grasp of the whole subject. Our trust experts not only know the subject inside out, but they are committed to preparing the ideal plan for you.

And they’re approachable, too. They’ll talk to you in plain English, not only as a valued client, but as a person.

Our advice covers:

  • trust planning
  • trust creation
  • UK or off-shore advice
  • sale or purchase of trust assets
  • supervision of income from trust assets
  • preparation of trust accounts
  • preparation and submission of trustee tax returns
  • disputes about trusts

Find out what’s best for you

We can provide you with an extensive range of services from an award-winning team. Our people have in depth experience across the whole spectrum of trust creation, including Will trusts, lifetime trusts, charitable trusts, and trusts of death benefits from life policies and occupational pension schemes. The most important thing, though, is to identify a trust that can be tailored to your needs.

Working closely with fellow professionals

What about your accountants and investment advisers? They will need to be involved, and we’ll work seamlessly with them to provide you with a comprehensive and integrated package. Even, if asked, acting as your trustees.

Our recent experience includes:

  • assisting trustees by identifying that their trust had not received all the assets that should have been transferred to it
  • advising on appointing assets out of the trust avoid an inheritance tax charge. Ensuring that capital gains tax holdover relief was claimed on the assets appointed out of a trust to defer liabilities
  • advising on the appointment of a revocable life interest to a trust beneficiary – resulting in an inheritance tax saving of over £70,000
  • helping beneficiaries establish that assets had been transferred out of the trust in error – resulting in an inheritance tax saving of over £200,000
