Stephens Scown LLP has once again reinforced its position as one of the South West’s leading law firms following the publication of the Chambers UK 2027 guide.
The employee-owned and B Corp Certified firm has been ranked across 13 practice areas, with its Family and Corporate teams retaining their Band 1 positions and a total of 31 individual rankings awarded to Stephens Scown lawyers.
The latest results highlight both the strength and depth of expertise across the firm, with rankings spanning Corporate, Family, Agricultural and Rural Affairs, Real Estate Litigation, Construction, Employment, Litigation, Planning, Environment, Restructuring and Insolvency, Social Housing and Real Estate. The firm is also recognised nationally in Energy & Natural Resources: Mining and Healthcare.
Among the firm’s highest-ranked lawyers, Family partners Andrew Barton and Sarah Atkinson retain their Band 1 rankings, alongside Real Estate Litigation partner Richard Bagwell. In a significant achievement, Simon Trahair-Davies has moved from Band 2 to Band 1 in the UK-wide Energy & Natural Resources: Mining category, underlining both his personal reputation and the firm’s national standing in the sector.
This year’s guide also sees five Stephens Scown lawyers recognised for the first time. Guy Michell has been named Up and Coming in Construction, Amy Ralston is recognised as Up and Coming in Intellectual Property, Chris Morse and Sarah Walls secure their first Chambers rankings in Employment and Family/Matrimonial respectively, and having recently joined the firm, Christopher Parsons has been named an Associate to Watch in Restructuring and Insolvency.
Further progression within the rankings reflects the continued development of talent across the firm. Steve Panton has moved up from Band 3 to Band 2 for Environment, while Tom Graham progresses from Star Associate to Up and Coming in Agricultural and Rural Affairs.
The strength of expertise across the firm is further reflected in the guide’s individual rankings. Alongside the firm’s four Band 1 rankings, ten lawyers are recognised in Band 2, eight in Band 3 three in Band 4 and one in Band 5, demonstrating the breadth of specialist knowledge available to clients across the South West and beyond.
Commenting on the results, Managing Partner Richard Baker said:
“These results are a reflection of the trust our clients place in us and the quality of advice our teams deliver every day.
“It is particularly encouraging to see new lawyers entering the rankings and others progressing through them. Developing exceptional talent is critical to our long-term success and ensures we continue to offer clients deep expertise across the sectors and services that matter most to them.
“Alongside retaining our Band 1 rankings for Family and Corporate, the breadth of recognition across the firm demonstrates the strength of our proposition and our position as one of the South West’s leading law firms. We are ambitious for the future and remain focused on helping our clients seize opportunities, navigate challenges and achieve their goals.”
