Senior Associate
Chris Morse

Qualifying as a chartered legal executive in 2009, Chris is an experienced senior associate, specialising in employment law since 2013. Prior to this, Chris worked in family law.

An avid believer in prevention being better than cure, Chris is a key member of our HRExpress service, providing pragmatic day-to-day HR and employment law advice. This allows our clients to have confidence, not only in the decisions they are making, but also about how those decisions are put into practice.

Chris prides himself on not just churning out black letter law advice, which any old employment lawyer can do. Instead, he goes out of his way to get to know his clients. This way, Chris can advise his clients with the benefit of understanding their wants and needs.

Chris advises on the full spectrum of employment law, including, redundancy, managed exits, business reorganisations, settlement agreements, disciplinary and grievances, capability issues and discrimination. He has a particular interest in litigation and represents both employers and employees in the Employment Tribunal. This gives him an invaluable insight into the mind of the Tribunal; an insight he is able to apply to his day-to-day advice work.

Chris supports organisations from a range of sectors but has a particular interest in the food and drink sector.

Recent work includes:

  • Securing a five-figure settlement sum for a dismissed employee, despite that employee having less than two years’ service
  • Securing a five-figure settlement for sum for an employee who complained of race discrimination
  • Representing an employee on a complex whistleblowing claim
  • Representing a food and drink client in defending multiple discrimination, harassment and victimisation claims
  • Representing an employer in the financial sector on a claim of unfair dismissal following a redundancy
  • Supporting multiple employees on a TUPE transfer following a local authority’s decision to in-source certain functions
  • Multiple settlement agreements, both for employers and employees
  • Representing a senior employee on a claim for unfair dismissal that was career ending.

Chris’ personal testimonials:

“I cannot speak highly enough of Chris and his team and Stephens Scown. From our first ever meeting he immediately put me at ease and you felt that he was a lawyer who genuinely had your best interests at heart. He is very professional but also very personable which is so important. The reassurance he gives my business is vital and I always feel comfortable contacting him about issues no matter how big or small they are. I have nothing but positives about Chris and he is a credit to Stephens Scown Solicitors and the legal profession as a whole.”

Peter Burt – Managing Director (2021)

“I cannot recommend Chris highly enough. His knowledge and area expertise are excellent, he conducts himself professionally and diligently at all times. Always looking for the strongest route, and actually encouraged me to continue with a ( very successful) course of action when I was ready to finish. A true professional and a credit to his Company, I have already recommended him to several ex colleagues who I know will benefit from his wisdom. Every matter was dealt with expediently and efficiently, with my desired outcome the sole aim. What made this level of service exceptional was that due to COVID, we were never able to meet face to face. Every communication was only able to be had via phone or email- fantastic service. This is the guy you want in your corner for a battle!”
