Apprenticeships

What is an apprenticeship, and is it for me?

An apprenticeship provides a valuable opportunity to combine work with education and training, and offers the same career paths as university study, but without the expensive costs.

It allows you to combine work and study, mixing on-the-job training with structured learning through an external training provider. All the while, you earn a competitive salary and enjoy all our standard benefits, including 25 days’ holiday (plus your birthday off!), and the opportunity to become part of our ‘Scownership’ scheme.

We offer a range of apprenticeship options for kick-starting your legal career path, including solicitor, paralegals and business support services roles such as marketing, finance, HR and IT.

Your Career Matters

We take pride in doing things differently and can support you in achieving your career goals. Legal apprenticeships offer the perfect combination of academic learning with on-the-job training, helping apprentices to develop new and critical skills at an early stage of their career.

The practical exposure offered by apprenticeships is also invaluable, as it allows individuals to develop client relations and receive hands-on experience.

In addition, we know from experience how valuable apprenticeships are to the firm, as all our apprentices have brought in fresh ideas and added value, while constantly improving through their training and learning.

Learn and earn, and acquire invaluable experience

Our apprentices learn both academically and vocationally, so you benefit from a combination of knowledge, insight and context that supports your progress. For example, as a Stephens Scown apprentice, you will learn:

  • what it’s really like to work in professional services on a daily basis
  • tips and tricks from experienced legal professionals
  • how to be an effective team player
  • all-important communication skills
  • better ways to organise yourself and your time.

It’s a great way to see what you learn applied to everyday legal work, use on-the-job experience to support your studies – and ultimately gain the qualifications that support your ambitions.

What kinds of apprenticeship do we offer?

It doesn’t matter if you’re completely new to the legal profession, or looking to acquire additional skills and progress in your current role with further qualifications – there are many options to choose from, and we’re continuously developing our apprenticeship portfolio.

We currently have a number of both legal and business support apprentices working towards a variety of professional qualifications.

Meanwhile, we work daily with our teams to discover what we can do to help them take their individual and collective skill sets to the next level, so new apprenticeship opportunities are always arising.
