Graduate Trainee Scheme

The Stephens Scown Graduate Trainee Scheme

Working at Stephens Scown is something else entirely. It’s a place where we can step up to tough challenges with people so good they inspire us to be better. Where every high-stakes task drives a high-performance response. And whatever the client or sector, we push, improve and deliver. We go beyond expectations and achieve things that matter – all the while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Could you be one of our next graduate trainees?

  • Do you share our passion for the success of the South West?
  • Can you understand and empathise with other people?
  • Can you think creatively?
  • Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone and change clients’ lives?

We’re always on the lookout for people who can demonstrate the drive, enthusiasm and ambition to be our future lawyers and partners. We encourage applications from law and non-law graduates with strong commercial and business awareness, and strong personal and communication skills. Creativity and a sense of fun will also go a long way to a successful career with us.

Training with one of the best in the business

A training contract with Stephens Scown will be challenging, but that’s what also makes it fulfilling and rewarding. Undertaking four seats in a variety of contentious and non-contentious areas, you’ll be invited to discuss your preferred options, and be actively involved in your development and progression.

Every day, we carry out high-profile and challenging work for clients ranging from FTSE 250 companies to dynamic local businesses and individuals, so extensive client exposure and important responsibilities will come your way. You’ll also be part of our professionals group, in which you’ll share ideas, learn new skills, and build strong networks with the local business community.

What our trainees say

As reported by independent legal guide Chambers and Partners, sources felt that the culture was supportive across both offices as ‘everyone’s very friendly and has the time talk to you, whether it’s related to the work or not. I really feel like I can approach any partner at the firm.’

While another trainee commented on the firm’s focus on promoting mental health and wellbeing, saying: “[We] meet with our graduate recruitment officer to talk about how things are going. We can raise any concerns and it’s nice to get advice from somebody removed from the legal side of things.”
