Sian Barrett is a associate in the Dispute Resolution team in Exeter and is also part of our Construction team. Sian qualified as a solicitor with Stephens Scown in 2012 after studying Law at the University of Exeter.
Sian specialises in contentious construction disputes and is experienced in providing tactical advice to employers, consultants and contractors in all aspects of dispute resolution. She has experience of dealing with a broad range of litigation, including proceedings in the Technology and Construction Court, and various means of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation, adjudication and arbitration.
Sian is also part of the specialist team advising leaseholders, management companies and developers on claims relating to unsafe cladding systems and other fire safety defects.
Examples of recent work include:
- Defending an employer’s right to retain payments claimed by a contractor due to defective workmanship
- Acting on behalf of homeowners against contractors in relation to breach of contract claims for defective works and claims under the Defective Premises Act 1972
- Recovering a final account payment owing to a contractor for work completed
- Advising leaseholders on claims relating to unsafe cladding systems and other fire safety defects.
Sian is a member of South West Women in Construction.
Outside of work Sian enjoys playing golf and exploring the Jurassic Coast.
