James is a senior associate in the Corporate team at Stephens Scown, having qualified in 2015. He first joined in September 2018 and following a move to work in-house at the largest and fastest growing coffee shop chain in the UK (Costa Coffee), he re-joined in October 2022.

James advises on a broad range of corporate matters including mergers and acquisitions, equity investments, joint ventures, and corporate restructurings.

Examples of his recent work include:

• Advising the shareholders on the disposal of 90% of the issued share capital in Feritech Global Ltd to Addtech Nordic AB.
• Leading on and managing the multimillion-pound share acquisition and restructure of a self-catering holiday provider.
• Supporting on the investment into Origin Coffee.
• Leading on the share acquisition of a global media law company.
• Leading on and managing the multimillion-pound share acquisition of a plastics manufacturing company.

James co-leads the firm’s Food and Drink team.

Outside of work he enjoys football, tennis, and surfing and can often be spotted on the sidelines at Truro RFC as an U18s coach.
