Stephens Scown shortlisted for five Clio Modern Law Awards

Recognising the work being done at the firm, Stephens Scown has been shortlisted in five categories at the Clio Modern Law Awards 2026.

The categories are Law Firm of the Year (Large), Client Care 100+ Employees, Litigation Team of the Year, Family Team of the Year, and Rising Star of the Year for Benitia Knowles-Wright from the Family team. It’s a range of awards that reflect the work being done across the business, the quality of client care, and highlight Benitia both for her client work, and championing diversity in the legal sector.

Speaking about the shortlistings, Managing Partner Richard Baker said, “It’s a real honour to be nominated in these areas. With five categories, it’s recognition for the impact of our work and marks Stephens Scown as a major player. These awards cover the UK, so it’s testament to our work that we are being spotlighted on a national stage. It’s rewarding to see the nominations come from all areas of the business, and the value we bring to clients.

“I’m delighted to see Benitia rewarded in her category, it’s just rewards for her work supporting clients during what can be challenging periods, and for her commitment to ensuring that clients are supported through the legal process, whatever their background. It shows that Stephens Scown is a great place to work and to do business, and we can be proud of this achievement.”

Being nominated for Law Firm of the Year (Large), the judging panel saw the scale and quality of work being done and follows Stephens Scown’s most successful financial year. It’s a headline category, and one in which the firm rightfully takes its place against law firms from throughout the UK.

The standard of customer service is shown in the Client Care 100+ Employees nomination, picking up on the firm’s commitment to customer care, and support of clients through their legal process. The desire for continuous improvements and new feedback system has played a key part in the nomination.

In being shortlisted for Family Team of the Year, the Modern Law Awards team saw the work being done by a team that is top ranked by both Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, the definitive legal guides. As one of the biggest in the region, the Family team’s work has had tremendous success and impact across the last year as it continues to go from strength to strength.

Benitia Knowles-Wright’s Rising Star of the Year nomination is a reward for her work with clients, and work in leading a pioneering project to transform the firm’s support for neurodivergent clients. Recognising that traditional legal processes can be overwhelming, she has designed and implemented practical, compassionate adjustments that enhance accessibility at every stage of the client journey.

Stephens Scown’s work in securing a Supreme Court victory for clients Thatchers against supermarket giant Aldi, led to the Litigation Team of the Year shortlisting. In a case that garnered global attention, the team’s efforts have had a real impact in the area of supermarket copycats or ‘dupes’ – where retailer-branded products have been designed to mimic the packaging, branding, and taste of famous name brands at significantly lower prices. The Supreme Court’s decision has been widely cited as a gamechanger in helping well-known brands to tackle lookalikes in the future.

With the awards taking place on the 29 April at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield, Stephens Scown will take to the stage with the best legal businesses from across the country, having more than earned its place alongside them.

The categories show the outstanding accomplishments of the last 12 months, as the drive to innovate and improve are matched by the excellence of the work being carried out throughout Stephens Scown.
