Sonya Bedford, head of renewable energy at Stephens Scown has been appointed to the Board of South Dartmoor Community Energy.

South Dartmoor Community Energy was set up in early 2016 to promote community owned renewable energy and address local sustainability challenges. Its first project was to invest in the Portworthy community solar array.

It is a member of the South West Devon Community Energy Partnership, which is a network of local authorities and community energy groups working towards a sustainable future.

Sonya commented: “I’m really pleased to be involved. This is a relatively new organisation with exciting plans for progressing sustainability in South Dartmoor.”

This new role adds to Sonya’s growing commitment to the sector. She is also:

  • non executive director of Regen SW
  • director of Exeter Community Energy
  • on the committee for the South West branch of the Energy Institute
  • board member for the Sustainable Institute
  • legal advisor for Avalon Community Energy

Sonya has been nominated in the Community Energy Champion category of Community Energy Awards 2016, which will be announced on Saturday, 3 September in Oxford.
