Robert Brightley

Robert was a partner in our corporate and commercial team in Cornwall before his retirement in 2021. If you are a client of Robert’s or have been referred to him, please contact Becky Davies or Tim Atkins for property matters and Tim Lane or David Gebbie for corporate matters.

Qualifying in 1983, Robert had over 30 years’ experience in commercial and corporate work, specialising in mergers and acquisitions and business re-organisations.

Robert was also a member of our Healthcare team regularly acting for dentists, GPs, vets and chiropractors. He acted for many businesses from inception of the business, or early stages, right through to eventual exit by the owners and their retirement. In terms of his chiropractic clients, over the last 15 years he acted for well over 40 chiropractors on clinic sales and purchases – many times more than any other lawyer he encountered in this work.

Robert ran his own commercial practice from 2002 until 2013 when he joined Stephens Scown as a partner. Much of Robert’s work came from recommendations from other professionals and several of those became clients too. Having many longstanding client relationships, Robert was often regarded by his clients as their trusted advisor and able to provide clients old and new with the benefit of many years of legal experience in the commercial arena.

Before retirement, some examples of his work included:

  • Acting on the sale of a significant engineering company to a European buyer involving a complex and multi-faceted re-organisation of the target group pre-sale.
  • A high value veterinary practice sale to a large corporate veterinary practice.
  • A demerger of a family owned holiday park business with several parks owned.

Robert has passed his clients on to Becky Davies and Tim Atkins for property matters as well as Tim Lane and David Gebbie for corporate matters. If you have been referred to Robert then please contact them.

Robert notes that ‘My colleagues are all experienced in their fields and you can rest assured that they will be able to help you’.
