divorce

It’s not unusual for divorcing couples to continue to live in the same house during divorce. It may not be financially possible for one party to move out of the house, or it may be to help any children of the family adjust to their separation and the changes that are happening.

Understandably, this could be a very challenging situation to find yourself in. We understand that the current Government guidance on Coronavirus may only add to the difficulty of dealing with such circumstances.

You may be asking questions about how you are going to communicate with your solicitor about your divorce with your spouse around the house.

How can we help you?

We can accommodate these types of living situations in the following ways:

  1. We will not send any post to your home address unless you are happy for us to do so;
  2. We are easily contactable by email or telephone and (subject to compliance with the current Coronavirus restrictions) we could also arrange a meeting with you in person at our offices. This could be helpful, for example, if you have a Court hearing which is scheduled to take place by telephone or video conference as we may be able to offer you the use of one of our meeting rooms so that you can use our telephone or video conferencing facilities to engage in the hearing;
  3. In light of the current pandemic circumstances, we can also conduct client meetings via video conferencing i.e. Skype, WhatsApp, Facetime, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. We will accommodate your preference and ensure that these meetings are carried out safely and securely; and
  4. We are also happy to discuss your case with you by telephone or video conferencing outside of normal working hours if the need arises. This may be necessary in these current times if you are a key worker working throughout the day or home schooling your children. These meetings could for example take place during your daily exercise.

Although these types of living situations may add to the difficulties of divorce, we will accommodate your circumstances and support you so that you are able to communicate easily with your solicitor about your divorce.
