Intellectual property specialist joins Stephens Scown article banner image

The fast-growing intellectual property (IP) team at Stephens Scown has recruited an IP specialist who joins from London firm Sheridans.

Neil Eagleton joins us as a senior associate in the Exeter office, with nearly ten years’ experience in commercial and IP issues.

Neil has a particular focus in advising clients in the fashion, media and entertainment, sports and music sectors.

He advises clients on their contractual relationships and also on the exploitation and protection of their brands and intellectual property rights, as well as enforcement and infringement issues.  His experience includes negotiating event, promotion, sponsorship, broadcasting, representation and licensing deals and advising on agency, franchise, distribution, marketing, services and consultancy arrangements.

Neil has worked for an extensive range of clients including multinational companies, musicians, managers, rights holders, international brands, fashion designers, sportsmen, filmmakers and on a variety of high profile events.

The appointment comes as Stephens Scown continues to grow its intellectual property practice. Last year, the firm worked on over half of the trade marks filed by South West businesses. This year is no different, with levels of work up on last year and two to three times the work on international filings.

Commenting on joining the firm, Neil Eagleton said: “I am delighted to be joining Stephens Scown, which is building such a strong reputation for intellectual property work. I am looking forward to advising clients on the whole range of contractual and IP issues. On a personal note, I am also excited about relocating to Devon with my family – the quality of life down here was a great attraction!”

Ben Travers, partner and head of IP and IT at Stephens Scown, said: “We are very pleased that Neil is joining us. His experience and sector specialisms will be a real asset to our practice. Businesses across the region are realising how important their intellectual property assets are, which is fuelling rising demand for our services – so it’s great that we’ve been able to strengthen our team with this further key appointment.”
