James is a Solicitor in the Intellectual Property, Data Protection and Technology team and is based in the Exeter office. He joined the firm as a trainee in 2022, completed seats in the Intellectual Property, Data Protection and Technology, the Corporate and the Construction teams at the firm, qualifying in June 2024.
James’ previous experience includes working as a Knowledge Paralegal; a Structured Finance & Derivatives Paralegal; and a Know-how Officer at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
James advises on various aspects of Intellectual Property, Technology and Consumer Protection law including:
- Exploitation and commercialisation of Intellectual Property and related agreements;
- Hardware, software (including AI) and firmware;
- E-commerce terms and conditions (B2B and B2C);
- Undertaking investor IP and technology legal due diligence; and
- Corporate support on Intellectual Property and Information Technology matters.
He also provides in-house legal team support, leveraging his previous secondment at an investment bank and working at the CMA.
James has given talks to legal professionals as well as at public speaking events across the South West.
Outside of work, James enjoys running, cycling and swimming.
