The King’s Speech confirmed HM Government’s commitment to introducing Martyn’s Law; proposed legislation which is supported by the opposition.
To quote from the King’s Speech “… the purpose is to improve safety and security of public venues and help keep the British public safe from terrorism.”
Martyn’s Law, also known as Protect Duty, is aimed at providing protective security and preparedness in publicly accessible premises, spaces and venues across the UK in the event of a terrorist attack.
Who Martyn’s Law will apply to?
It is likely to become law within the next 12 months and will probably apply to publicly accessible premises and venues, both inside and outside, with capacity to hold 100 or more members of the public, customers, visitors and paying guests. These include premises such as holiday parks, food outlets, shopping centres, pubs, hotels, festivals, places of worship and higher education campuses.
