Should we be following special rules for volunteers?
Volunteers are a huge asset to many charities. There are special rules about expenses they can claim back and various duties owed to them by the charity under health and safety and other legislation. The charity should be careful however not to treat them in such a way that even though there is no payment, the volunteer becomes classed as an employee with all the rules that apply to them.
