Planning

Many of us will have to deal with the planning system at some point – whether for a home extension or for a larger scale project.

Whilst the planning system is becoming ever more complicated, some types of small scale domestic development which may include extensions do not need planning permission as they are covered by the rules on ‘permitted development’.

However, these rules too are complicated and wrongly assuming that development does not need planning permission can render the works liable to enforcement action.  This is likely to be very stressful, costly and ultimately may result in the development in question having to be removed.

It is therefore essential to get good legal advice from the outset – and ensure that what you want to do is lawful.

Our specialist planning team is praised by both of the independent guides to the law – Chambers and The Legal 500, and has experience in guiding individuals through the planning minefield from start to finish.  Our planning team deals with a whole range of matters from advising farmers and landowners on diversification projects and working with the tourism and retail sectors to advising local councils on the new Localism Act.

Even if you have been through the planning process and been unsuccessful our team are still able to help – regularly representing individuals in planning appeals.

With localism now  firmly in place the team can also keep you apace with the latest developments, the opportunities that they may provide you with and how they will affect you and your project.

Get your planning application off to the perfect start with good solid legal advice from our planning team.
