Sickness Absence and Stress

If you are sick for either a lengthy period of time or have a recurrent illness, it’s likely you'll need to comply with employers’ policies.  Employers can be unsympathetic to sickness issues and look at dismissing employees who are frequently ill or who’ve been away for long periods.  In these circumstances, we can advise you about the procedures employers put in place.

We can help if you feel stressed to the point of being ill and unable to continue at work.  In some cases, stress can count as a disability and for that reason needs to be handled in a particular way by the employer.  A failure to have regard for an employee’s disability can lead to a costly claim for the employer and a sizeable award for an employee.  We can help you to make sure that you’re treated fairly if you’re suffering with stress or depression.
