Domestic Violence
Violence does not mean just physical harm. It includes a range of behaviours including verbal threats, intimidation, pestering, harassment, sexual harm and emotional or mental abuse.
By its nature it generally happens behind closed doors. We are experienced in helping the victims of abuse to obtain the full protection that the law has to offer, as well as advising them about other services that are available to help them come to terms with their experiences.
If you think you are at risk contact us as a matter of urgency. We will provide clear and firm advice in an understanding and supportive environment. If you qualify for Legal Aid to meet the costs of legal representation we will let you know and obtain it for you. Where appropriate we can provide you with immediate emergency Legal Aid and obtain an order from Court that same day.
The protection available to you
• If you are "associated persons" (eg you have lived together, are married, related, have a child together, have been involved in a significant intimate relationship or involved in the same family court proceedings), you can apply for a non molestation or occupation order
• If you are not associated persons (eg you are neighbours, work colleagues) then you can apply for protection under the Protection from Harassment Act
