Eight teams from South West legal firm Stephens Scown are preparing to pull on their boots and train hard for a tough charity event taking place next month.

Thirty members of staff from offices in St Austell, Truro and Exeter are gearing up to walk 25 miles in less than 12 hours by entering the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge 2009.

The partners, solicitors and admin support workers are raising money for the firm's official charity of the year Children's Hospice South West by taking on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent (691m), Whernside (728m) and Ingleborough (723m).

They will start the long and demanding challenge early in the morning on Saturday 11 July and will climb a total of around 5,200 feet during the circular walk in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire.

Last year, 37 members of staff from Stephens Scown took part in the Three Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike) in under 24 hours and raised more than £10,000 for charity.

Phil Gregory, partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team said: "We broke all records last year and we were extremely proud of everyone who took part. This year, it will be challenging again for those involved and because it's a national competition we will be up against many other teams. Everyone will be timed and it will be tough, so we've been training hard to get to a good standard of fitness and stamina to take on the challenge."

Children's Hospice South West has two hospices and accepts children and families from across the region who have a life limiting or life threatening condition.

Phil added: "We're delighted to be taking part and raising money for such a worthy cause through this event."

Outdoors and mountain challenge company Merseyventure will be co-ordinating the event and providing trained mountain guides for the team from Stephens Scown. For more information on the challenge click here
