Worker Registration Scheme
This was introduced in 2004 when new countries joined the EU (A8 nationals). Nationals of the following countries will need to register under the Worker Registration Scheme (WRS), within 1 month of starting work for an employer:
- Czech Republic
- Estonia
- Hungary
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Poland
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
There are some exceptions and the immigration team can advise whether you are within the criteria of those exceptions.
Once a person from one of the above countries has been working in the UK legally for 12 months without a break in employment, they will no longer need to register on the WRS. They can then apply for a residence permit confirming their right to live and work in the UK.
