Grid capacity issues – our viewpoint article banner image

Today’s article in the Western Morning News regarding the national grid being constrained is news that does not come as a surprise, given the capacity issues across the whole country. However, it is important to remember that existing grid connection offers will not be affected.

Many of the renewable energy projects that have grid connection offers will, for various reasons, never be built.  2.5GWs of capacity has been committed under these existing offers and a way of establishing how many of these offers will actually be taken up needs to be established as a priority.

Here at Stephens Scown we continually look for innovative solutions to problems and have been delighted to provide the legal model for the Distributed Generation Consortium Trial at Bridgwater that was announced by Regen SW last month. This trial will see three renewable energy developers paying for the costs of grid reinforcement and enjoying the resulting increase in capacity.
