South West legal firm Stephens Scown LLP has been ranked at number one for its commercial property and family work in the latest edition of Legal 500.
The firm’s agriculture and estates, planning and environment teams have also climbed the rankings in the publication of the annual guide to the legal profession. Stephens Scown LLP, one of the largest firms in Devon and Cornwall, is hailed a ‘regional heavyweight’ in the South West.
The commercial property team has moved up to the first tier and is described as ‘knowledgeable, experienced and commercial’ and Exeter-based Jonathan Hoggett ‘expert in the field of documentation’.
Meanwhile, the family team is described as ‘premier’ with Exeter-based leader Liz Allen being singled out again as a ‘leading individual’ and a number of lawyers from across the firm coming ‘highly recommended’.
The agriculture and estates team is described as ‘very user-friendly and proactive’ with St Austell-based team leader Phil Reed ‘recommended’ and Truro-based Richard Baker ‘personable, approachable and helpful’.
Meanwhile, the planning and environment team, which advised on the St Austell clay country eco-town development – the UK’s largest such project, is noted for being ‘extremely good’. Truro-based team leader Ian Lamond provides ‘excellent service and subject matter knowledge’, as well as a ‘practical and pragmatic’ approach.
Robert Camp, joint managing partner for Stephens Scown, said: “Once again, it’s really pleasing for the whole firm to have been ranked so highly. There have been some fantastic achievements across a range of sectors this year and most notably the rise to the first tier for our commercial property team is a real coup.
“While it’s been a tough, challenging and interesting year, we’ve launched a new renewable energy team and had a lot of success with our food and drink and holiday parks teams, which demonstrate our clients are becoming more discerning in how they source their professional advisers. We’ve invested £1.5 million in our IT infrastructure and will be pressing ahead with the redevelopment of our St Austell office.”
Stephens Scown has also retained its rankings in a number of sectors including corporate, debt recovery, personal injury, employment, social housing, immigration, energy, dispute resolution, insolvency and corporate recovery and personal tax, trusts and probate.
