Marine and Coastal Access Act – Consultation on marine plan areas

Following close on the heels of the new Marine and Coastal Access Act (the Act), the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has issued a consultation paper entitled ‘Consultation on marine plan areas within the English Inshore and English Offshore Marine Regions’.

The consultation (relating only to England, as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have responsibility for planning within their regions) asks for views on the boundaries of the marine plan areas under the new marine planning system, introduced by the Act.

The consultation paper also sets out the considerations which the Government believes should be taken into account by the Marine Management Organisation (also provided for in the Act) when it decides the order in which it develops those marine plans.

The consultation closes on 16 February 2010.
